                        Try Breakfast Without Caffeine

Breakfast in the morning is essential to anyone’s life.  No matter what age, breakfast can benefit you in many ways including your health. As teens, we are still growing and it is important for us to have three meals a day.  As much as teens need a healthy breakfast, we should do something to limit the amount of caffeine in our everyday life.

People have taken a step to solve this breakfast issue by providing free breakfast in schools, but what about caffeine?  Many teens consume caffeine and don’t even realize how bad it is for your body. Although you cannot be physically addicted to caffeine, it can still be physically habit-forming.  I interviewed my grandmother who started drinking caffeine at a young age of 14.  Because of how long she has been drinking coffee, she has a habit of drinking it.  My grandma is now in her 70’s and has two cups in the morning a cup at her work and occasionally a cup at home.  She stated, “When I went on runs when I was younger, that cup of coffee gave me horrible cramps.”  This is true.  Caffeine can give you horrible cramps, pain, arthritis, heart disease and bone loss.

Caffeine is not the best to drink all the time as we already know.  But the key word is moderation. If you drink coffee occasionally, that is fine. A solution to this coffee issue is that you can begin drinking decaf coffee. Decaf has a very scant amount of caffeine in it, not enough for people to notice. If you keep a healthy diet including a balanced breakfast with a limited amount of caffeine intake, you will live a healthy lifestyle.
